Sunscreen

Sunscreens are products combining several ingredients that help prevent the sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation from reaching the skin. Two types of ultraviolet radiation, UVA and UVB, damage the skin and increase your risk of skin cancer. Sunscreens vary in their ability to protect against UVA and UVB.

Ultraviolet (UV) is part of the electromagnetic (light) spectrum that reaches the earth from the sun. It has wavelengths shorter than visible light, making it invisible to the naked eye.

Ultraviolet A (UVA) is the longer wave UV ray that causes lasting skin damage, skin aging, and can cause skin cancer. Ultraviolet B (UVB) is the shorter wave UV ray that causes sunburns, skin damage, and can cause skin cancer.

Broad-spectrum sunscreens protect the skin from both UVA and UVB rays.

SPF (Sun Protection Factor) is a measure of a sunscreen's ability to prevent UVB from damaging the skin. If it takes 20 minutes for your unprotected skin to start turning red, using an SPF 15 sunscreen theoretically prevents reddening 15 times longer – about five hours.

Insect Repellent

H GROUP’s Insect repellent is an all-natural product which does not contain DEET (N,N-Diethyl-meta-toluamide) or any other synthetic ingredients which may be harmful to health.

It was specifically formulated from natural oils and extracts to produce a product which is both effective and safe. Available in spray dispensers which are easy to use, portable, and perfect for application.

Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Soybean Oil, Neem Oil, Eucalyptus Oil, Peppermint, Tea Tree Oil, Geranium Oil, Clove Oil and Cinnamon Leaf Oil.

Soybean Oil:

Soybean oil has insect repellent properties and is both safe for the skin, effective, and also a very good moisturizer.

Neem Oil:

A 1995 study at a field station the Malaria Research Centre in Ranipur, Hardwar, India, tested a mix of 2% neem oil mixed in coconut oil.

They showed that applying that mixture to the skin provided significant protection from various mosquitoes. It worked best against anophelines, offering 96-100% protection! (The malaria transmitting anopheles mosquitoes fall into this group). The numbers for other species were 85% for Aedes (carries dengue fever), 61-94% for Culex spp (can carry West Nile virus) and 35% for Armigeres.

Eucalyptus Oil:

According to the University of New Hampshire, lemon eucalyptus oil is as effective as low concentrations of DEET, the most popular chemical repellent.

Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus was first registered with the EPA in 2002 and the agency has since recognized that certain formulations of OLE repel deer ticks (that can carry Lyme Disease), and mosquitoes (that can carry Eastern Equine Encephalitis or West Nile Virus). The US Center for Disease Control and Prevention includes it as one of only a handful of repellents that repel the mosquitoes that transmit West Nile Virus and other insect borne disease.

Peppermint Oil:

Menthone is a compound found in the leaves and stems of the peppermint plant. The scent deters insects and rodents.

Researchers in India — a nation with a large mosquito epidemic — discovered that peppermint oil is effective as more than just a flavoring or digestive aid. It also repels adult mosquitoes and kills the larvae. It has been particularly effective against mosquitos.

Tea Tree Oil:

Tea tree oil has been known to repel mosquitoes, lice, ants, and many other insects that bite. It also soothes insect bites and stings and helps in removal of ticks. Tea tree oil is an effective repellent against mosquitoes, fleas, and lice, according to the Purdue University Center for New Crops and Plants Products.

Geranium Oil:

Geraniol, a powerful ingredient from geranium oil provides a natural and extremely effective insect repellent.

According to laboratory and field studies by the University of Florida in Gainesville, Geraniol, the active ingredient has been proven effective in repelling a wide variety of insects, including mosquitoes, house flies, stable flies, horn flies, cockroaches, fire ants, fleas, gnats, and dog ticks.

Clove Oil:

In a comparison of 38 essential oils against mosquito bites, clove oil came out on top, providing up to 2 hours of protection against all three mosquito species, as noted in an April 2005 study at Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand.

Cinnamon Leaf Oil:

Cinnamon Oil makes a very effective natural Mosquito repellent and is well documented to kill Mosquito larvae.

A study published in the July 14th issue of the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry reports that the compounds in cinnamon oil are more potent in killing mosquitoes than DEET (usually used as a repellent, but also poisonous).
